JMAD's annual Trust in News in Aotearoa New Zealand report will be published in April. It will be freely available via link below and also in our research section. The annual report is co-authored by Dr Merja Myllylahti and Dr Greg Treadwell.

JMAD's first AI and journalism report published 

JMAD's first AI, Journalism and News Media in Aotearoa New Zealand is published on February 3, 2026. The report, authored by Dr Merja Myllylahti, examines how AI is used in day-to-day newswork in New Zealand and what ethical and journalistic principles are applied to its usage.

AI, Big Tech and Journalism conference 2026

JMAD is calling for abstracts for the AI, Big Tech and Journalism conference to be held at the Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, on September 3-4, 2026. Abstracts are due on April 30, 2026.

The 2025 media ownership report is published

JMAD has published its largest Aotearoa New Zealand Media Ownership report yet. The annual report is written by JMAD researchers and scholars from the AUT School of Communication studies.
